Have tried numerous times to grow on trellis. Trellis is within 4 inches of stucco wall. Will summer heat keep plant from growing?

The leaves of Mandevilla are tender and not very heat resistant. Instead of trying to grow one close to a stucco wall, try growing Cardinal Climber. It is heat resistant, however, I'd give it more than a 4" space. Any vine you grow will need more growing space than that. Try moving the trellis or wires at least 12" away from the wall. This will provide room for air circulation to keep the plant healthy and will also keep it far enough away from the wall to keep from burning in the hot sunshine.

Best wishes with your garden!
