I need to get rid of most of my lawn as it is mostly weeds and then re-plant lawn seed. when is the best time to do this?

I apologize for this delayed reply to your gardening question and hope it is still helpful to you.
Wait until early April to renovate your lawn. Then the grasses are growing fast enough for good quick results.
