My 4 year old Jacaranda tree has two top branches that badly need pruning. We are in the middle of a true cold spell for California - mid 30s to 40s at night and hig 50s to 60s during the day. Will I harm the tree if I prune the branches now? Should I wait til it warms up?

Pruning encourages new growth which will not be cold hardy. Wait until early spring, just as new growth begins, to prune your jacaranda. New growth will appear within a few weeks of pruning. Enjoy our beautiful tree!
