I have an adult saucer magnolia tree that needs to be moved because my husband is adding on to our home.I'm not happy about this because this is my baby.It is about 20 years old.I live in NH and was wondering what is the best time of year to dig up the root ball and how deep should I go when i try to move this tree. |
Unfortunately, this is a big project and may be quite difficult with a mature tree. I would strongly suggest you consult on site with a professionally trained and certified arborist (ISA certifies arborists -- International Society of Arborists) with experience in successfully moving mature ornamental trees. They would need to use a tree spade and heavy equipment to move it and they might recommend preparing it by root pruning beginning a year ahead of the planned transplanting. This would be done to try to concentrate roots closer to the trunk. Best of luck with your tree! |
