|What's the logic (if any) of government regulations preventing certain plants and/or seeds from being shipped to Arizona, specifically Lilac bare-root plants and herb plants?|
|Arizona is a fabulous place to garden and farm. One of our many assets is the minimal number of plant pests and diseases. This is due in part to stringent regulation of the importation of plants into the state. By restricting the type of plant and source Arizona is able to prevent the spread of pests & disease common in other parts of the country. For specific information on plant regulations in Arizona you may want to contact the Arizona Department of Agriculture (602) 258-4933.
Lilacs would have a difficult time in Mesa. Most years it does not get cold enough to inspire them to bloom. You might want to consider Buddleia davidii as an alternate.
