Hosta can be replanted now, in the spring. You're likely to find a mass of tangled roots when you dig the plant. If it is quite large, you can divide the rootmass. If it's a small plant, you won't have to divide. Simply prepare the planting site by amending the soil with organic matter (such as compost) to ensure good drainage. Then plant the divisions (or single root mass) at the same soil depth as they were growing before. Be sure to water well after replanting to help settle the soil. Enjoy your hostas! |
