|When should I trim my rose bushes and apple tree?|
|Rose bushes are usually pruned in early spring (March in your gardening region). Wait until the buds begin to swell on the canes (to indicate dormancy is over) and then prune the canes down to about 24". Choose 3-5 of the healthiest looking canes and prune off all the others. The canes you reserve can then be pruned back to an outside facing bud. This will ensure the new growth will not crowd the center of the plant but will grow outward.
Apple trees are pruned in the winter while they are dormant. It's not too late to prune your tree, but you'll be sacrificing flowers (and potential fruit) if you prune now.
Best wishes with your landscape!
