Lawns love sunshine so you may be disappointed in turfgrass that's planted in the shade. You may want to plant a shade tolerant groundcover, instead. If you have your heart set on planting grass, Kentucky bluegrass, buffalo grass, blue grama, turf-type tall fescue, fine-bladed fescues such as hard, red, chewings or sheep, perennial ryegrass and crested wheatgrass all work well in Colorado. When shopping for grass seed, look for a mixture of grasses specially packaged for shady areas.

Best wishes with your landscape!
