|What kind of trees are good for shade and for fruit? Do they need special care?

|Fruit trees will be deciduous in your garden region so they will only provide shade in the summer time. You might try apple trees or cherry trees. Lots of sunshine, ample water and occasional pruning is about all the care they will need. Both are prone to fungal diseases in your area if the spring is wet or there's not enough air circulation around them. I still think they're worth planting. Enjoy!
