I have a japanese maple and would like to start a cutting from this tree. How do I do this? |
Japanese maples can be propagated by seeds, cuttings and through a method called air-layering. I've had great success with tip cuttings; cut a 4-5 inch long branch tip, strip the lower leaves and push it into a small pot of moist potting soil. Put a Zip-lock bag over it to make a little greenhouse and set it in a bright location (out of direct sunlight) for 6-9 months. It should be well rooted by then. It generally will not need additional watering while it is inside its own little greenhouse. Best wishes with your project! |
