|How and when do I plant cockscomb seeds?|
|Plant cockscomb seeds indoors six to eight weeks before your region's last frost, then plant outdoors 8 inches apart. When starting cockscomb from seed, use peat pots. These biodegradable brown pots are planted right along with the flower, minimizing the transplant shock cockscomb is so susceptible to. Or, you can start your seeds outdoors, directly in the flower bed. Prepare the soil by mixing in some organic matter (compost, peatmoss, etc.) to make it well draining and nutrient rich. Then scratch out little furrows and sprinkle the seeds on the soil. Top with just a quarter inch of soil and water the bed well. After the seedlings emerge you can thin the plantings out so they're about 8 inches apart.
Best wishes with your new flowers!
