What is the root pattern of red scarlet maple trees?Do they cover a large area?

This tree will spread its roots well beyond the branch spread, potentially two and a half times as wide. Maples in general tend to have surface roots making it difficult to garden beneath them, although this one is not as notorious for that as the Norway maple. I hope this answers your question.
