|I'd like to grow some roses, but hear they're hard to grow here in the Puget Sound area. Any suggestions?|
|Growing healthy roses in the Pacific Northwest can be a real challenge. Some tips for success include choosing disease-resistant varieties, planting them in full sunshine, and giving them enough elbow room to encourage good air circulation. Disease resistant varieties are available in Hybrid Teas, Grandifloras, Climbers, and Floribundas, in almost any color you'd desire. Here's a partial listing:
Blue Nile, Chicago Peace, Fragrant Cloud, Heirloom, Honor, Keepsake, Mr. Lincoln, Olympiad, Peace,Princess Margaret, Silver Jubilee, Tiffany and Voodoo (Hybrid Teas). Grandifloras include Camelot, Gold Medal, Love, new Year, Tournament of Roses and Prominent. Floribunda cultivars: Cherish, Escapade, French Lace, Impatient, Marina, Orangeade, Redgold,Shocking Blue, Sun Flare and Viva. Climbers include Altissimo, Dortmund, Golden Showers, Handel, Joseph's Coat, and Royal Sunset.
Enjoy your new rose garden!
