I have a white substance growing on the branch part of my priveted hedges. Some look like spots, others look like a white powder. I tried spraying Malathion but it didn't work. The bushes seem to be doing good but I was told by a non expert that I needed to treat it. Any help is appreciated.

Don,

It could be residue from irrigation water or perhaps powdery mildew which is a fungal infection. Powdery mildew is controlled with a number of products including Bayleton and products with potassium bicarbonate.
