Should Hostas be cut back to the ground in the fall to get them ready for spring?

The leaves of Hostas usually die back in the late fall and can be safely removed without harm to the plant. It's always a good idea to remove dead and dying plant material from the garden all year, but it's especially important to do a thorough clean-up of the garden each fall. That way insects and diseases can't hide in garden debris and get a jump-start on your plants in the early spring.
