|Sir/Madam, I am a new home owner. I want to know what steps I need to do at this time of the year to maintain my lawn in good condition. During Fall 2006, I had Core-Aerated my lawn and seeded and fertilized and put lime in the lawn. I see weeds in my lawn. What should I do now? And what should I do on a year round basis, to keep the weed away?|
|The most important thing you can do is mow correctly, that is often enough that you never remove more than one third the grass height per mowing. A correctly mowed lawn, along with fertilizing and liming as needed according to the results of soil tests, will go a long way toward keeping the lawn healthy and reducing weeds. You might want to consult with your local county extension as to which types of weeds are in your lawn and how best to control them as well. They should also have information about general lawn maintenance and care in your local area. In the meantime you may find the information on their web site helpful. (You may need to cut and paste the complete url to make it work correctly.)The page currently includes a section on spring weed problems and weed management information.
Enjoy your new home and lawn!
