I have a relatively restricted sunny spot in my garden and hesitate between planting a Barlett pear tree and an Eberta peach tree. On the label of the peach tree (Home Depot garden center) it says that the average size for the Eberta peach is 20' x 20'. The Barlett pear ranges from 10-15' tall and 15-25' wide. from this width range, it would seem that the pear tree needs a bigger area. Is that correct? Which is smaller when mature?

For the area you describe, I'd recommend finding a semi-dwarf pear, peach or cherry tree. Semi-dwarf trees can be maintained at about 12'. The crown of a pear tree will be smaller than either a peach or cherry because it has a more upright canopy. Peach and cherry trees have a broader growth habit.

Best wishes with your new fruit tree.
