I planted a ligularia earlier this spring, and although I covered it with a sheet during the night, it did not fare well during our latest cold snap. The leaves are very wilted and laying flat on the ground. I can't imagine these leaves ever perking up. Should I cut it back and hope for new growth? Is it possible I lost it since it was newly planted and not yet established? Thanks in a advance.

It was just too cold for covering to really help that much. If the leaves are mushy, go ahead and trim them off as they will not recover. It's possible you lost it, but I hope it will regrow from the roots, be very patient and give it some time to wait and see.
