|My father is looking for a bulb that his father raised
many years ago. It was called The Empress of India. It
was a very large bulb I think it was a lily but could be
an amaryllis. I have looked in many catalogues but have not found it. Do you have any suggestions on how I can find this?
|I couldn't find any bulb with that name, nor any varieties of amaryllis or lily. But that doesn't mean it doesn't exist! If it is indeed a type of amaryllis, your best bet would be to contact Amaryllis Inc., PO Box 318, Baton Rouge, LA 70821 (ph# 504-924-5560). If it is a type of lily, try the Lily Nook, Box 657, Rolla, ND 58367; ph# 204-476-3225 or B & D Lilies, PO Box 2007, Port Townsend, WA 98368, ph# 360-385-1738.
I did find a variety of nasturtium called "Empress of India"at World Seed; there is a picture at
I doubt this is the one though.
Good Luck! I hope you find it!
