please recommend a good outdoor plant/tree around 4ft high for my porch to be stored in a large flower pot that will not receive much light. and does it need to be taken indoors during the winter months? What are the best perennials to be planted in an flower pot? |
This is a difficult question. Based on your description I think you might consider using a large tropical plant such as a ficus tree or Monstera philodendron. This would summer outdoors and be brought inside for the winter each year. Using a planter on casters would make moving it in and out easier. It is difficult to overwinter hardy plants outside in a container because the roots are not as well insulated as they would if the plant grew in the ground. However, hostas would probably do well in the location you described, especially in a larger sized pot. Remember to check on it and water it so the soil does not completely dry out any time the soil is not frozen. |
