I have started growing some vegetables indoors, mainly peas and tomatoes. How do I know when it will be safe for me to transplant them into my garden? This is my first time trying to grow a garden and, living in Michigan, I am concerned about frost.

It's best to wait to plant out after your area's average last frost date. I'm not sure where you are, but Detroit's last frost date is April 24. Marquette is May 12. Check with your County Cooperative Extension office, local weather station, nursery or garden club to find out yours. Be aware that these reflect the norm, but even later frosts can hit, so monitor weather forecasts and be prepared to cover plants if a freeze is predicted. Good luck with your first garden, and feel free to send questions if we can help you with anything else.
