|I'm clearing a spot for a garden and have a lot of white rock and bark chips, and would like to know if I can plant watermelons or any other kind of melon on top of the rock in stead of taking up vegtable garden space.|
|Sort of a cascading garden? Melon vines are fairly sturdy and will probably not have a problem hanging over a wall, but the developing melons will need to be supported. You can try fashioning slings for them and attaching the slings to the rocks. Do remember, though, that the natural tendency of plants is to grow up, not down, so some of the vines may not quietly drape themselves down a rock wall.
Good luck with your project!
