What are good shrubs and flowers to plant when you have part sun and part shade in the same area. I am interested in planting only perennials. Thank you.

To some extent this depends on what time of day it is sunny. If it is sunny for more than six hours including the hour of nooon, then you have what is considered a full sun location. And for a spot with afternoon-only sun for much of the afternoon then you need to select plants that tolerate hot sun. Bright dappled light all day or gentle morning sun are fine for partial shade plants. Some perennials for dappled light or morning-only sun might include ferns, hostas, Lamium maculatum, Tiarella, Heuchera, Pulmonaria, Tricyrtis and Helleborus. Shrubs to considere might include Hydrangea, Itea virginica, Clethra alnifolia, shrub or twig dogwoods (such as Cornus sericea) along with Azalea and Rhododendron. I hope this gives you some ideas.
