every year our flowering crab drops its leaves very early..like the beginning of summer.....we sprayed it earlt a few times but it doesn't seem to help.......we don't like using pesticides because we feed the birds and have a dog..........HELP!

Some varieties of crabapple -- especially many of the older varieties commonly planted years ago -- are susceptible to a number of different diseases that can cause premature defoliation. Sometimes the best solution is to plant a different variety with better disease resistance. But, in case it is something that can be treated with a low toxicity spray and/or cultural controls, I would suggest you work with your local county extension to find out exactly what is causing it and work from there. They should be able to advise you as to treatment options. Good luck with your tree!
