|My new construction house came with a landscaped yard, which is nice. A red oak tree was planted in my front yard that's about 8ft tall. We moved in during the winter and now that it is spring our tree has no buds nor no leaves. Is it a late bloomer or is it dead? The other yards with maple trees have sprouted thier leaves. The tree has grown a few feet higher but no leaves. I snipped off a small twig of it and the center was green but the tip was dead. When will it get some leaves?
I am sorry for this delayed reply to your gardening question. The spring rush has brought a deluge of questions and we are working hard to catch up!
It should have leaves by now. I'd give it a little more time just to be sure. You can scrape the bark off a shoot to see if it is still green underneath. Also bending a shoot to see if it is still supple or if it is dry and snaps easily can help you determine if it is alive or dead.
Thanks for the question. Best wishes for a wonderful gardening season. Please stop in again soon!
