|I am in need of deer proof plants for around my house... and the wooded area surrounding my house. We have deer walking all over our property and the feed off of my hostas... even my holly!|
|Deer can be a serious problem, especially when your property is on their routine browse trail. There are no truly reliable lists of deer resistant plants because they learn to eat new plants over time, and when brose pressure is more severe will eat plants that normally they might not. In my experience, the best long term solution is a tall fence. Some gardeners report success using the spray repellents, applied and reapplied yeare round per the label directions. Other than that, you might check with your neighbors to see which plants the local deer seem not to bother, and plant accordingly. Hosta are sometimes called "deer candy" so it is not surprising that they are eating those consistently. Here are some plant lists you may find interesting as well. Please understand that the lists are not fool-proof in that your deer may still eat some of the plants listed as resistant. You may need to cut and paste the complete url into your browser to make it work correctly.
