I live in San Diego county, approx. 30 miles from the coast in the inland valley area of El Cajon. We are on 5 acres and want to plant trees in an area within 50 to 100 feet of the house. What trees would you suggest. We just dug up 4 young poplar trees because we saw what they were doing to a neighbors wall. We would prefer shade trees due to the hot summer temps.

Thank you.

Some of the best shade trees for your area include Big Leaf Maple, California Sycamore, White Alder, Chinese flame tree (Koelreuteria bipinnata), California Buckeye, Desert Willow, Western Redbud, Chinese Pistache and Crape Myrtle.

Hope one of these suggestions is just right for your landscape!
