I planted over 100 tulip bulbs 2 years ago and they bloomed the first year but this year only a hand full of them even appeared. Any thoughts?

There are several possible explanations for this. One is that you planted a variety that just does not perennialize well -- many do not. Another is that the foliage was removed too soon last spring. The foliage must be allowed to grow fully and then dry up on the plant before removal. This is the process that replenishes the bulb so it can bloom again. Finally, it is always possible voles ate them during the winter. And if the area is poorly drained they may have rotted away. I hope this helps you trouble shoot.
