im new to boston and need to know what to do to get my lawn ready and prepared for the summer

The first thing to do would be to run some basic soil tests and use the results to know if you need to fertilize and/or correct the soil pH with lime. The next most important thing to do is mow often enough that you do not remove more than one third the grass height each time you mow. Correct mowing really helps to keep the lawn healthy and thick so the grass can crowd out weeds.
