I started a garden for the first time in our new house last year. It was a disaster nothing grew. The leaves turned yellow then brown, the plants withered and died and the ones that survived stopped growing and were very spindly. Leaves curled even on my lilacs. My day lilies didn't bloom, they had distortrd leaves and yellow streaks even my daffodils didn't bloom. I started many seeds indoors this year and they have done the same thing, very few out of hundreds survived. Yellow sticky strips showed thrips. Our dog hates to go outside, when he does, he comes in itching and gets sores on his skin. I have even noticed bites on my ankles and arms. Now that I know what to look for, I find them everywhere. In my carpet, on vinyl floors, on our dogs bedding, on the window screens. They are so tiny they come or go right through. I am at a loss of even where to begin, I have used sprays on my house plants and seedlings and a few hours later I find dead thrips on the plants by leaf junctions and at the base but they come back in no time at all. I am getting where I don't like to go outside because I get bit so much and I am sure I bring them in when I come in. Please help!!! Planting time is only a couple weeks away and I don't want to lose everything again and I want to give our dog some relief. THANK YOU SO MUCH!!! Janet

Thrips can be difficult to control and may have developed resistance to many sprays. Rather than continuing to try to control them on your own, and based on your description of the extent of the problem, I would strongly suggest you consult with your local county extension for assistance. They will be able to advise you exactly what to use and how/when to apply it for maximum results. Here is the link for contact information for the different county offices.

I hope this helps!
