| As a matter of fact, that's the best way to propagate azaleas! You can take softwood cuttings this summer, dip the end in rooting hormone, remove most - but not all - of the leaves on the cutting, and plant it in sharp sand. Or, you can bend a branchdown so it touches the ground, make a nick in the branch, hold the injury open with a small pebble or piece of toothpick, and anchor the branch so it remains in contact with the soil. New roots should grow at the site of the injury and you'll be ableto cut your new plant away from the parent plant when new growth begins on the branch. Either method can take up to a year, so be patient! |
