This is a very broad question. The first thing to do is work out a master plan for your landscape to identify where you might like a lawn or play area, a flower garden, a vegetable garden, a patio space, and so on. You also need to decide on a landscaping budget and be aware of how much time you have to maintain or care for the landscape. Then lastly you would work on selecting the specific plants to meet your needs and that would thrive in the growing conditions you have in your yard.

I would suggest you begin by looking at a book or two to get some general ideas. I particularly like the Dummies series books because they are very straightforward and practical and offer a lot of good suggestions. They are available at many bookstores and libraries.

Another good resource would be your local Rutgers county extension office. In the meantime, you might find somehelpful information on their web site. (You may need to cut and paste the complete url into your browser to make it work correctly.)

Last but not least, you can always ask questions using the Q&A format and we will try to help. You may use the form as many times as you need to, but please limit each question to just one plant or issue so we can give you as complete an answer as possible. Thanks!
