Insects - Knowledgebase Question

Our magnolia tree has what looks like a small cacoon that is white and soft to the touch. I picked one off the back of a leaf when I squeezed it something green came out. what it is I have no Idea.The tree is full of these things. Please help me if you can. Thanks L Clifton

It sounds as though you've found cocoons from some winter moths. The larvae will pupate inside the cocoons for a few more weeks and then will emerge as moths. There are not too many insecticides that will penetrate the cocoons and kill the larvae so you may just have to wait it out. Once the moths emerge, they'll fly off to greener pastures.
