|Hi. I'm from the South and this is my first attempt at a garden here in the metro Detroit, MI area. I think I'm in either zone 5b or 6a. We have a raised garden bed 8ft x 4ft x 12 in. I plan to purchase small plants - tomatoes, specifically and also squash, cucumbers, etc. When can I safely start planting?
|The first of June is the optimal time to plant vegetable seedlings in your area. The fact that you have raised beds means the soil will warm up a little earlier in the season than the rest of your landscape. This will make the warm-season veggies you plan to plant quite happy. Hope you have a bountiful harvest!|
