You need to plant a different apple variety that blooms at the same time as the Gala. This can be either a nearby crabapple tree or another fruit-type apple. Gala is a mid season bloomer. The following publication about growing apples in the home orchard in Ohio lists several possible varieties to consider and also provides some general care information you may find helpful.
