| I recently moved into a new house that has Bermuda Grass planted. I would like to destroy the grass but I would like to turn the area into a flower/shrub garden this Spring. What product do you suggest and how soon can I plant new flowers (Perennials and Annuals)? |
| Actually, I wouldn't suggest any product. I would suggest solarization. I feel it is much more effective and safe than any chemical you could use. It's simple too. All you need to do is lay down black plastic in the area you want to kill the grass in. Anchor the plastic with large rocks, bricks, etc. The grass will literally cook, suffocate, dehydrate, suffer from no light, and die under there. Of course, this works the quickest in the summer, because the hotter the weather you do this in, the better. If I were you, I would go ahead and lay the plastic down now. It will take longer this time of year, but it will still work. The added bonus is, you don't have to wait for herbicides to leave your soil before you can plant the perennials and annuals you are dreaming of. |
