To germinate hosta seed pods, mix with dampened peat moss, place in a plastic bag and put it in the refrigerator for about three months. At the end of that time plant the seeds in flats and cover with 1/4 inch of potting soil. The seeds should germinate in 14-20 days, at 70F. You will not get hybrid hostas from seed, but they're fun to grow. Hostas from seed will take about 5 years to reach mature height and width.
