Are their containers that one should not use for vegetable growing? We are trying to encourage inner city folks to grow some veggies. |
When you look for containers I think maybe the best simple rule of thumb is either something new (wash it out and rinse clean) or something "food safe" such as recycled five gallon buckets from restaurants or plastic gallon milk jugs. Recycled drywall buckets are fine, as would other containers you can thoroughly clean out such as a discarded plastic wading pool. I would avoid anything used to hold toxic chemicals, treated wood, or similar. Keep in mind you need to have drainage holes in the bottom of the containers. Good luck with your project! |
