|Purchsed Burpee Stingless Green Pod Bush snap beans.
Will we need to grow these on a trellis? I know it says bush, but I'm not sure what that means. Also, how many seeds does one actually plant realistically? To get one or two good bushes going, do I need to plant the entire envelope? I am starting them in peat pots and quickly ran out of pots!
|Bush bean seeds can be planted directly in the soil about two weeks before your last frost date. Beans (and peas) don't mind cold soils as much as other plants do. Germination should be about 90% for the entire packet of seeds so, potentially, most of the seeds will develop into mature plants. It's difficult to predict how many pods will develop on each plant. We usually recommend that people plant over a period of time by planting a few seeds every two weeks, so they'll have beans developingover a long season. You can try that, too. Your bush bean will not need a trellis and they will not need to be staked. They will each grow into a bush shape and the bean pods will develop all over the plant.|
