Is there any annual I can plant in my backyard that the deer won't eat? They destroy my Impatients and day lilies?

Unfortunately deer can be very destructive in the garden. There are lists of plants that deer seem to like or dislike, however if they are really hungry they will eat almost any plant if your garden is on their browse trail. As you have seen, impatiens and daylilies (as well as hosta) are among their favorite foods.

In my experience the most reliable defense is a tall fence. Some gardeners report success using the repellents, applied and reapplied per the label directions. Having said that, here is a list of plants that might work for you. You may need to cut and paste the complete url into your browser to make it work correctly.

Your neighbors may also have an idea of what is succeeding (or not) with your lcoal deer population. Good luck with your flowers this summer!
