I need a fast growing, fall color or flowering, roots that will go straight down. Like the Autum Blaze Maple but it needs to be fertilized often in Colorado. Do you know of a another tree, that has the above qualities.

Here are a few choices:

Skyline Honeylocust grows 50? to 60? tall; Vigorous in youth of 2 feet per year, full size in 30 years; This tree is more uniform than other Gleditsia cultivars, so it requires little pruning; A cold-hardy form with yellow fall color and few fruits, this selection is most notable for its unusual upright growth habit. It forms a broadly pyramidal tree 40? tall and wide. It makes a good street tree and is widely regarded as one of the finest forms available.

Amur "Flame" Maple small tree, 15 to 20' tall; deciduous, with broad, rounded outline, typically multistemmed; medium to fine texture; typically showy red fall foliage.

American Sweetgum (Liquidambar) Narrow and erect when young, this tree becomes more rounded with age. It eventually reaches 60 to 75 feet tall. Spread is usually 20 to 25 feet, but trees may grow much wider in great age. Deep green, five- to seven-lobed, 3- to 7-inch-wide leaves turn purple, yellow, or red in autumn; fall color of seedling trees is variable, so select trees in fall leaf to be sure of good color. Branching pattern, furrowed bark, corky wings on twigs, and bristly fruits are showy in winter. Performs best in neutral or slightly acid soil.
