I have 2 queen palm trees, they are about 10 ft tall. Late in March I think they were over-fertilized. I used about 2 pounds of TURF MAGIC Palm & Ixora food and aboutv 2 pounds of Miracle-Gro Shake and Feed Continuos release. I may also spread them close to the trunk.
Couple weeks later, the emerging fronds are bent over (where the leaves start)on both trees.
As soon as I saw that, I flushed it with water.
The emerging leaves and fronds still growing, but seem weak and reduce in size. On one of the tree, I cut off where it bent (another mistake!).
What will happen to the tree now? Will they survive? Does the rootball still o.k? I understand Manganese deficiency has similar symptom, I wonder if this is the case of over-fertilized or Manganese deficiency. I appreciate if you can help to answer my questions.
I am sorry for this delayed reply to your gardening question. The spring rush has brought a deluge of questions and we are working hard to catch up!
Your palm trees just need time now to see if they can recover and resume normal growth. There is nothing for you to do but to provide adequate watering. Try applying some SulPoMag or Potassium Magnesium Sulfate. Sprinkle 1/2 cup evenly throughout a circular area extending 4 feet out from the trunk in all directions and then water it in well. See if they respond in a few weeks and if they do repeat the application twice more about 3 months apart.
Thanks for the question. Best wishes for a wonderful gardening season. Please stop in again soon!
