We just exited an unusually cold season. Of the 2 Oleanders, one was lost. The cold hardy shrub,
is now leafing out(purchased at a nursery)-but we
thought was'nt going to make it. The Wal-Mart purchase-sadly succomed.

Is there something special we need to do to insure that the lone survivor survives? Suggestions, please!

Jerry,

I am sorry for this delayed reply to your gardening question. The spring rush has brought a deluge of questions and we are working hard to catch up!

Keep the oleander's soil moderately moist and fertilize with with a half cup of lawn fertilizer spread evenly throughout a circle extending 4 feet out from the base in all directions. Then water it in well. This will encourage good vigor and recovery. Don't fertilize after about mid summer as encouraging late season growth decreases cold hardiness.

Thanks for the question. Best wishes for a wonderful gardening season. Please stop in again soon!
