Dahlias are perennials (they grow from tubers), but they must be dug and stored over the winter months in order for the tuber to survive. Wait until the tops are killed by a frost, then dig the tubers, brush off any soil clinging to them and store them in a cool place that remains above freezing. Replant when the soil warms in the spring.
