The best way to keep rabbits out of the garden is to erect a fence. Sometimes you can repel them by using a spray or granular repellent labeled for rabbits, or by spreading bloodmeal in the garden, or by treating your plants with a pepper wax spray.

Modern pest management practices are based on identifying the specific pest first and determining if it actually requires control -- some pests do little damage while others can ruin your crop. Then based on knowing what the pest is you would select the least toxic control that is effective for that particular pest.

So, preventive treatment is no longer recommended. Unless you are having a problem, you would not need to do anything. Keep an eye on your plants and if there is a problem, identify the culprit and then decide what to do.
