|I have decent sized area in front of my living room window.|
I was looking into putting some taller plants closer to the house, and was wondering what plants you would reccommend.
Also what kind of soil I should use
|There are a number of angles to think about with this kind of project. First, what is the purpose of the planting -- decorative foundation planting, screening, a focal point out the window or from the street view, to balance something else in the landscape? How large is the area, how tall and wide can the plants be when they mature? Do you want evergreen or deciduous? Is flowering important? Is low maintenance important? Is cost important?|
Then you need to look at the growing conditions where the plants will be: is it sunny or shady and at what time of day; is it windy, especially in the winter; is the soil extra wet, extra dry, or average; what kind of soil is it; how much space is available for the plants to grow and mature to their full size?
Once you have answers to the above questions you can begin to narrow down your choices. I hope this helps with your planning.
