I bought two different kinds of hydrangeas from home depot in valley stream. A pink bulbous one did not have a tag . I would like to know if it can be planted in a pot and how big does the pot have to be. Also can it be planted in sun or partial shade.
I also bought two Blau Meisters. How far apart should they be planted from each other and can they be planted in shade in dry soil? How much water do I need for the all my hydrangeas?

There are three types of pink hydrangeas, their flower heads being the main distinguishing characteristic. Mophead hydrangeas are the most common type. Mophead's have large, round heads of compact blooms that can get up to 12 inches across on some varieties. The second type of hydrangea are Lacecaps, after the lace blooms that surround the center of the flower. The third type, and the least known, are the Panicles. The flowers can appear to be very similar to the Mopheads or be long and pointed. I don't know which one you're growing so deciding on a container size takes a little guessing. Plant in at least a 5-gallon pot and you should be safe for a few years. Fill the pot with potting soil rather than garden soil to facilitate drainage.

BlauMeister hydrangea is a medium sized plant; give each plant 5-6' of space all around for uninhibited growth. You can plant closer if you intend to control their size by pruning.

Give all your hydrangeas morning sun and filtered afternoon shade, provide one-inch of water per week. Soak the soil in your container as often as necessary to keep the plant happy (water when top of soil looks dry).

Best wishes with your new hydrangeas!
