|Hi, I think I am asking about the right thing, I am looking for some kind of plants that are in the shade until 1:pm the full hot afternoon sun until sun set. these plants I want in hanging baskets, or window boxes.|
Thanking you in advance.
|This is considered full sun and, since it is the intense afternoon sun reflecting off the house, it is also a very hot location. This can be difficult to plant successfully in small window boxes or undersized baskets. The larger the container the better in that it allows the roots better insulation from the heat and the soil will stay moister longer as well. Some plants to try might include Calibrachoa or million bells, marigolds, salvias, dusty miller, Angelonia, lantana, black eyed Susie vine (Thunbergia alata), the ornamental sweet potato vines, and Mandevilla. Use a good quality potting mix formulated for containers, consider adding water holding crystals to the potting mix, and be prepared to water as often as needed to keep the soil evenly moist like a wrung out sponge. By late summer this can sometimes mean watering twice a day. Good luck with your containers this summer!|
