OK, I know I probably shouldn't have, but I planted Pymy palms around the pool this spring and they are growing well. My question is this, what do I need to do to protect them when winter comes?

Thank you.

Fortunately, Pigmy Date Palms are relatively small so winter protection shouldn't be too difficult. It will grow as far north as zone 9 and there are stories of it surviving at occasional temperatures into the mid to low 20s once it has been established. But it must be covered with a sheet or some plastic to provide frost protection. If you cover it overnight, be sure to remove the covering in the morning - if you leave it on after the sun comes up, the fronds can bake in the heat.

Best wishes with your palms!
