I planted some iris year before last (not sure what kind) and, while they put out leaves, they've never bloomed. Any suggestions?

I am afraid you may have one of the German or Japanese Iris which will not do much in Florida, due to our hot, humid climate. Several species of our native iris and the Louisana iris and their hybrids do well in Florida.

Check the following, to see if you planted and are caring for the irises correctly:

Plant iris rhizomes in late summer or fall. Plant rhizomes 1" deep and 8" apart. Plant in semi-shade and add plenty of organic matter to the soil at planting time. Fertilize lightly with a 6-6-6 fertilizer.
